October Focus: Supporting Our Missionaries

This week will complete the daily devotional readings for three of the four components of this church’s mission statement of Following Christ to the Glory of God. The first three months of the year focused on Honoring the Word through studying, knowing and obeying Scripture. The second quarter theme of Pursuing Unity showed us what our life together as a church should look like. Then this summer we were spurred to action in Serving the Community. I have personally found these daily readings to be challenging, inspiring and motivating.

 

We now move into the final stretch of 2015: Living Our Mission with a look at the last component entitled, Extending the Kingdom. As we prepare for our annual Harvest Sunday Missions Contribution on November 8, this is the perfect time for our October focus of Supporting Our Missionaries. While it is extremely important that we be generous in giving funds for this mission effort, the devotional readings this month will demonstrate that supporting our missionaries involves so much more than just writing a check every month or year. God calls us to partner with them in the gospel – not only financially, but physically, emotionally and spiritually as well. This holistic partnership is vital to the success of Extending the Kingdom around the world. So let’s be diligent in every aspect of Supporting Our Missionaries, both this month and throughout the coming year.
