A Clean Slate

Did you or your children have an Etch a Sketch growing up?  With this popular toy, a person could create linear pictures by twisting the knobs to draw vertical and horizontal lines on the screen.  If the artist messed up or became dissatisfied with the end etch a sketchresult, all he had to do was turn the device upside down and shake it, and the drawing would magically disappear, allowing him to begin again with a clean slate.

 

Sometimes we may wish life was like an Etch a Sketch.  Often as we are creating the pictures of our lives, we mess up and become disillusioned with what we have become.  We would like to somehow erase that tainted image and start all over with a fresh, clean slate.

 

As Christians, we have received a second chance at life.  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).  The Lord forever eradicates the sin and corruption within us, giving us a new heart and a fresh start.  And as we walk with Him, creating new pictures of life, His blood continues to wipe the slate clean every day (1 John 1:7).

So begin this day with a pure heart and a joyful song of thanks to the Lord, for through His great power and mercy, He has provided us with something far better than an Etch a Sketch!
