Barrier to Belief: Lack of Knowledge

2017 harvest sunday that the world may believe date goal website

Even as Jesus prayed in John 17 that the world would come to believe in Him, He knew that belief wouldn’t come easily for most people. Their hearts are like the soil along the path in His parable of the sower recorded in Luke 8. Before the seed of God’s Word has a chance to become embedded in their hearts, take root, and blossom into knowledge, Satan comes and snatches it away “so that they may not believe and be saved” (v. 12). That lack of knowledge becomes a barrier to belief.

Jesus spent countless hours during His ministry patiently teaching people about God, helping the seed of His Word grow into a knowledge that will save. As His followers today, we must carry on this process of teaching and nurturing the growth of knowledge. Here are a few examples of what our mission partners are doing to tear down the barrier of ignorance about God in their part of the world.

  • Providing a structured Bible study and Christian living environment in a dorm for university students in the predominantly Buddhist nation of Cambodia.
  • Conducting Bible studies in the homes of those seeking God in Chihuahua, Mexico.
  • Producing teaching resources in multiple languages and conducting seminars and video conference classes in Latin America.
  • Sharing the good news of Christ with people around the globe through mailed correspondence courses.
  • Broadcasting Christian radio programs throughout the world.

Think about what you will give on Harvest Sunday to help our mission partners continue to spread the knowledge of Christ “that the world may believe.”
