March is one of those “in between” months. The coldest part of winter is behind us, but the warmth and vitality of spring has not yet arrived. So we find ourselves waiting, anticipating the fulfillment of the promise of new life.
But our waiting should not be an inactive or unproductive process. There are things we can be doing during this interim, such as preparing the soil for planting or conducting some intensive spring cleaning. Being “in between” is no excuse for idleness.
It is fitting, then, that our upcoming Sunday adult class curriculum for the spring is entitled, “While We’re Waiting.” The first century Christians in Thessalonica were in one of those “in between” seasons. They were eagerly waiting for the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to return to the earth again and were expecting it to happen any day. Evidently, some had adopted a lifestyle of inactivity as they waited. The apostle Paul wrote two letters to this church, urging them to continue to work for the Lord and live godly lives as they waited for His return.
As Christians today, we are still awaiting the second coming of Christ just as they were, so the principles Paul taught then also apply to us. On Sunday, March 5, all adult classes will meet for a special presentation in the Worship Center, then the next week we will begin our study of 1 & 2 Thessalonians and Jude. Come join us and discover what we are to be doing “while we’re waiting.”
