Barrier to Belief: Poverty

Numerous studies have demonstrated how difficult it is for people to concentrate and take in knowledge when their basic physical needs such as food, clothing, and shelter have not been met. This would include hearing and receiving the good news of Christ. Poverty can be a barrier to belief.

 

As our Creator, Jesus knows this better than anyone. Throughout His ministry, He fed the hungry and healed the sick as He fulfilled His mission to “proclaim good news to the poor” (Luke 4:18).

 

Our mission partners continue to walk in His steps today by addressing the needs of those who are physically, as well as spiritually, impoverished.

  • Offering benevolent help and free medical and dental services in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and Mexico.
  • Furnishing food, medicine, and vitamins to those experiencing ongoing economic crisis and unemployment in Athens, Greece.
  • Providing weekly food and a place to shower for the homeless in Itu, Brazil.
  • Giving donated food and clothing to those in need in Anahuac, Mexico.

Some of the funds we give on Harvest Sunday will help meet basic physical needs, so that people can take in spiritual nourishment. Let’s be generous so “that the world may believe.”
