“The tongue has the power of life and death” (Proverbs 18:21a). With our words we can build up others and bring desperately needed hope and healing, or we can tear them down and destroy them. The entire direction of a person’s life can be affected, or even decided, by someone’s words – for the positive or the negative.
Othoniel and Paloma Gutierrez, our mission partners in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico, are choosing to speak words of life to a great variety of people in their community and surrounding area. Every Sunday morning, they share God’s Word with the members of their congregation in Bible classes and worship. Then in the evening, they drive ten miles to Casa de la Esperanza (House of Hope), a home for abused and neglected children, to help teach and train these children in the Lord. On Mondays, they go to the local prison to share the good news of Christ with inmates who have lost all hope in life. And then on Tuesdays, they speak words of wisdom that are especially relevant to families through their weekly radio program. Everywhere they go, they speak words of life and bring hope to those who are hurting and alone.
God has blessed their efforts. Recently, six young ladies at Casa were baptized into Christ. Please pray for Daniela, Elena, Maria, Nadia, Fatima, and Dafne as they begin their new life in the Lord. Many of the prison inmates have found renewed hope in life through Christ, and several have sought out the church upon their release from prison. And a number of people in the community have expressed how much the radio program encourages them.
May all of us as God’s people – whether we live in Granbury, Mexico, or on the other side of the world – speak His words of life to those who live without hope around us.
