Hope. It can seem like an elusive, impossible dream for those who are trapped in a cycle of fear or poverty. Everywhere they turn, there seems to be a locked door with no way out.
But for the hopeless sea of souls in South Texas, the Church of Christ North in Pharr stands as a beacon of light in a dark world. For the past 30+ years, this 80-member church, with the financial and hands-on support of Christians and churches across the state, has brought the hope of Christ to both sides of the border by constructing or renovating over 100 homes and church facilities, conducting more than 50 free medical and dental clinics, and establishing over 20 churches. In recent weeks, the congregation has hosted and served with outside volunteers who are helping with disaster relief efforts in the wake of major flooding that occurred in the region when 18 inches of rain fell in a 72-hour period. Whatever the need, they are willing to adapt to help and serve others.
We at GCOC have been privileged to partner with this ministry of hope through our annual Harvest Missions Contribution, as well as missions trips to help with clinics and construction projects. May we all continue to be alert to opportunities the Lord gives us to bring hope to a broken world.
