Persevering Through Trials in South Texas

When trials come into our lives, they are often very unexpected and significantly affect our future. This is true, not only for individuals, but also for churches and ministries. In March 2017, South Texas Hispanic Ministries (STHM), which GCOC supports financially through our Harvest Mission funds, experienced such a trial with the sudden death of Craig Cooper, the mission coordinator and primary leader of this ministry. It was a devastating blow, and some of those involved wondered if the ministry would be able to continue.

 

Now, 2 ½ years later, STHM is not only surviving, but with God’s help, is thriving. Those in need are being helped, the gospel is being shared, ministers are being trained, and new churches are being planted throughout the Rio Grande valley on both sides of the border. Recently, the ministry appointed Robert Bazan as the new mission coordinator. One of the overseeing elders for the ministry stated in a recent report, “Robert grew up in the area and understands the environment of border life. His best talent is his devotion to the Lord. …God raised up the perfect heart for this demanding work.”

 

May the Lord continue to guide and bless this ministry through all circumstances to the glory of His name.
