God's Rescue Mission

Harvest Ministries is the name for Lou Seckler’s ministry of training and encouragement for church leaders in Latin America and Brazil. He recently conducted a seminar in Chiapas, Mexico where ministers came from a 100-mile radius to learn and receive encouragement. Lou shared the following story in his report.

 

This year’s topic was “The Life of David.” We examined the life of one of the most human of all Bible heroes. As we talked about transparency in our lives, three brothers witnessed about their past life of drinking and indifference to God’s Word. One of the brothers confessed he was found on a sidewalk, sleeping it off, when a man rescued him, cleaned him up, fed him, showing him God’s love, and now he is one of the preachers. Then he turned around and pointed to another preacher present and said, “And here he is, my rescuer.” Today, all of those who once wallowed in sinfulness are healthy, preaching the Word, and rescuing others they find lost in the darkness of sin.

 

This story brings to mind the words of Paul in Colossians 1:13-14: “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” This passage applies not only to the Colossian Christians and the three men in Lou’s story, but to every one of us “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). May we join together with God in His global rescue mission!
