What will you be remembered for a hundred years from now?  Will you even be remembered a hundred years from now?  Most of us would like to think that our existence here on earth has made a difference somehow, yet very few of our names will make it into future history books that will be written.  If that’s the case, then how can we make a lasting difference in this world?

 

Take a few moments to look through the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1:1-16, and think about the faith of those who are named there.  Go back and read the Old Testament stories of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Boaz, David, and Zerubbabel.  Notice that although they stumbled at times in their journey with God, their belief in Him was at the core of their being.  They lived out their faith and passed it on to the generations after them.

 

Back to the original question – how can we make a real difference in our brief time here on earth?  As we see in the example of these patriarchs, the answer is through people.  The only achievements that will last through the passage of time are the values we ingrain in our children and grandchildren and the things we say and do which inspire those around us to be godly people, as they pass on to others the heritage we have left them. 

 

So today, leave your mark on the world by living out your faith and instilling your love for the Lord in those around you. Only God knows how many lives will be touched for eternity by your legacy of faith.
