“…We have left everything to follow you!”
Mark 10:28
Peter’s statement above, in reference to the apostles of Jesus, is not an exaggeration. They had spent long periods of time away from family and friends to follow Jesus. Some of them had walked away from lucrative businesses where they had worked as fisherman, tax collectors, etc. They had made great sacrifices for His cause, and Jesus assured them that they would be greatly blessed for doing so.
The same stories of sacrifice could be told about the mission partners we support as a church today. Some of them have moved far away from family and friends to tell the story of Jesus to people in foreign countries. They work extra hours in the evenings and on weekends as fishers of men for Christ instead of pursuing financially profitable careers. They have made tremendous sacrifices for the privilege of sharing the gospel with others and, according to the promise of Jesus, have received abundant blessings from God as a result.
Last Sunday, it was announced that our Harvest Sunday goal to fund next year’s mission work is $207,000. That may seem like an overwhelming amount of money to raise. But before you dismiss it as unattainable, stop and think of the sacrifices our missionaries make each day and remember that they depend on us for their support and livelihood. If all of us will join together in making a few sacrifices of our own to give to this mission, we will not only reach, but exceed, the goal and will consequently share in the blessings from God that follow.
What will you sacrifice for God’s mission?
