God has a heart for those who are most vulnerable in our world. From the numerous Old Testament laws commanding care for the fatherless, widows, and foreigners among His people to the New Testament instruction to look after orphans and widows in their distress, we see His love and compassion for those who are often cast aside and forgotten in our society.
In seeking to honor God’s call to serve the widowed, the GCOC Victory class has hosted an annual spring luncheon for this treasured group in our congregation for the past 13 years. They provide a meal, entertainment, door prizes, and handmade gifts for those who come and generally have about 25 in attendance.
Everyone involved – guests and volunteers alike – are blessed through this ministry of love. Those served are reassured that they have not become a forgotten segment of our church family. And class members who contribute their time, resources, and God-given abilities are blessed by the wisdom and life experience these brothers and sisters in Christ have to offer.
May we all follow their example of service and act on the opportunities God provides to serve others in His name.
