Stories of Shared Lives

…we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God  but our lives as well,  because you had become so dear to us.

1 Thessalonians 1:8

 

As the passage above indicates, sharing our faith in Christ involves much more than just telling the story of Jesus. It also includes building relationships with those we are trying to reach and sharing our very lives with them.

 

There is no greater joy than seeing people we have come to love surrender their lives to Christ and watching them mature in their faith. Our mission partners have experienced this joy over and over in their work of sharing their faith with others. Here are a few examples.

  • Several years ago, missionaries in two different cities spent time teaching and mentoring teenage boys who eventually became Christians. Today, at least two of these young men serve as missionaries themselves, sharing Christ and investing in the lives of others.
  • One of our missionaries faithfully visits the prison in his local community every week to share his hope in Christ with those incarcerated there. When one of the inmates he had baptized and discipled was released from prison, the first thing the freed man did was contact that missionary who had helped change his life and brought his family to worship with the church that meets in that community.
  • A young woman was hired to cook for a Christian outreach center. After several years of observing, studying and interacting with the Christians there, she gave her life to Christ and now shares her faith and life with university students who come to the center.

Living here in Granbury, we may not have an opportunity to share our lives directly with people in faraway places. But we can share in that process indirectly by giving on Harvest Sunday to enable our mission partners to teach and invest in those they meet along the way in their respective communities. Together, we can make a difference for Christ in people around the world!
