…we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
Have you ever done something out of duty, just because you should, expecting to receive nothing in return, only to discover that you were blessed as much or more than the one you were serving? That often happens when we follow through on what God calls us to do. As Jesus stated in the scripture above, the greater blessing is in giving rather than receiving.
Many of our volunteers in the nurture visitation ministry have experienced this truth firsthand. In the course of making over 370 visits in the last year to those who are ill, homebound, or grieving the loss of loved ones, they have not only blessed others, but have also been blessed themselves in the giving. Here are some of their comments:
Had a wonderful visit! We have a lot in common and became friends.
This lady is a joy to visit and so happy to have company!
Had a wonderful time talking about people we know in common. We are lucky to know her.
Makes everyone who visits feel special. I felt so uplifted by her spirit.
Those who serve in this ministry receive one visiting assignment per month. The more volunteers we have, the more the blessings will multiply. If you would like to be added to the volunteer list, you can contact me in the church office. You too may discover that you are abundantly blessed in the giving.
